Try laser cut lantern patterns against one window
Before you cut a whole lantern, cut one panel and hold it in front of a lamp. After all, fine lines that look lovely on screen may burn through or vanish in the glow. In addition, the same pattern looks different on light birch and on dark MDF, so test both if you have them.
Keep the 3 mm walls with the right drawing
Most files here are drawn for 3 mm sheet, and several makers warn not to resize them. This is because the tabs and slots are cut to the sheet, so a scaled file no longer fits together. If your plywood is 3.2 mm or 4 mm, measure it and look for a file made for that thickness, like the 4 mm light arch.
LED or candle in a laser cut lantern
An LED tealight is the safe default for every wooden lantern. First, it stays cool; second, it fits small openings, and it can sit under thin parts. By contrast, a real flame needs open air above it, like the two tealight holders at the end of the list. Therefore never put a burning candle inside a closed lantern with thin cut-outs.
Before you cut your laser cut lantern
First, open the file and count the parts, because a bundle name does not tell you how many lanterns you get. Next, check the stated thickness against your sheet with calipers. Then cut the base and one wall and test the joint. Finally, place your light inside before you glue the roof.

What thickness is a laser cut lantern made from?
In most cases, a laser cut lantern file here is drawn for 3 mm plywood or MDF. The village arch is the exception, made for 4 mm wood. Several makers also name acrylic for inserts or panels.
Can I put a real candle in a laser cut lantern?
Only in an open holder with air above the flame, such as the ring stand or the petal holder. For closed lanterns, use an LED tealight or a battery string.
Can I resize a lantern file?
Usually not, because several makers warn that resizing breaks the joints. Instead, look for a file drawn for your sheet thickness.
Are the colours in the photos part of the file?
No. Instead, the files hold cut and engrave lines, and the colours come from paint, stain or a coloured insert. Likewise, the props in the photos only show the idea.
