Laser Cut Home Decor: Clocks, Trays, Letters and Boxes

Home decor is where a laser pays for itself fastest. A clock, a tray or a set of letters costs very little in plywood and time. It replaces something you would otherwise buy in a shop, made to your own size and your own taste. These pieces are also among the easiest things to sell, because they are useful and personal at once.

This guide collects nine files for the home. It starts in a child’s room and moves through the living room to the craft table. Several of them are bundles of ten. Two are very practical helpers you will use for every other project: stand backs that let any flat piece stand up, and a set of boxes with pierced lids. Each entry says what the maker includes, which sizes and thicknesses the maker gives, and where the finished piece works best.

For a child’s room

Animal Pendulum Wall Clocks

A clock is the first thing a child learns to read on the wall, and these make it fun. You get a sleepy mouse, a monkey swinging from a branch and a winking sheep, each with a clock face in the body and a pendulum that swings below. They are layered 3D designs, so the animals stand out from the wall instead of lying flat.

The maker mentions both a child’s room and a living room as places for them. They also make a lovely gift for a new baby or a child’s birthday, one that will be used for years. The bundle has ten files in each format: SVG, EPS, PNG, PDF and DXF. A clock movement is not part of the file, so pick a standard quartz clock kit that fits the centre hole.

Boho Dream Catchers

A wooden dream catcher keeps its shape forever, where a string one sags and tangles. This bundle has boho designs around a mandala with wooden feathers hanging below. They include sun and moon versions, a heart, a butterfly and an eye at the centre.

The maker names it both as wall decor and as decor for a child’s room. Over a bed it is a small comfort for a child who is afraid of the dark. It is also a pleasant piece for a bohemian living room or a gift for a teenager. There are ten files in each format: SVG, EPS, PNG, PDF and DXF.

Dollhouse Bookcase

This tall townhouse has balconies, arched windows and open floors. It works two ways at once: as a doll’s house to play in, and as a bookcase and storage shelf for a child’s room. The photos show both, with books on one floor, toys on another and a doll’s bedroom on a third.

That double life is what makes it good value. When the child grows out of dolls, it stays in the room as a display shelf, and it can also serve as a shadow box display for miniatures. The file comes with one file in each format: SVG, EPS, PNG, PDF and DXF.

Miniature Bookshelves at 1:12

These tiny bookcases come at 1:12 scale, the standard size for doll’s houses and miniature rooms. The set includes a tall case with a drawer, a corner unit and a cabinet with doors below. Add miniature books, and they look astonishingly real.

They suit doll’s house collectors and anyone building a book nook, the little diorama that slides between real books on a shelf, as the photos show. A book nook with a miniature library inside is also an unforgettable present for a reader who has everything. The bundle has ten files in each format: SVG, EPS, PNG, PDF and DXF.

For the living room

Rattan Alphabet and Numbers

You get the whole alphabet and the numbers, each with a woven rattan pattern cut through it. It is the texture that has come back into every interior magazine. Spell HOME, a family name, a house number or a date for the shelf or the wall.

There are two versions of every character: a single layer, and a two-layer version where the outer and inner outlines are offset to give the letter real depth. The maker lists wood, acrylic and leather as materials, and the files come as AI, EPS, DXF and SVG.

Layered Topographic Catchall Tray

This tray has stacked layers, so it looks like a relief map, with hills and valleys that become compartments. Drop your keys, coins, earbuds and rings into it by the door. You can also plant small succulents in the hollows, as in the photos.

It is a modern piece that suits a hallway, a desk or a kitchen counter. It is also a practical gift for someone who is hard to buy for. Red lines are for cutting and black for engraving. The bundle has ten files in each format: SVG, EPS, PNG, PDF and DXF.

For the craft table

Gift Boxes with Five Pierced Lids

This decorative box comes in two sizes, 120 × 120 × 34 mm and 200 × 120 × 34 mm. It has a hinged lid with five different pierced patterns. The patterns let you see what is inside, which is exactly what you want for beads, pearls, buttons or small findings on a craft table.

As a gift box, it holds jewellery, a watch or a set of soaps and becomes part of the present. The box suits 3 mm, 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) and 4 mm wood, acrylic, plywood or MDF, and comes as AI, EPS, DXF and SVG. The maker lists LightBurn, LaserCut and RDWorks, with Glowforge, OMTech, xTool and Thunder Laser machines.

Sixteen Garden Designs

This set has sixteen cheerful garden motifs for engraving, each with optional overlay layers for depth. The designs are a gnome with a flower pot, a birdhouse, a fence with a bird, a smiling pot, a trowel, a snail, a pumpkin patch, a wheelbarrow of flowers, a botanical frame, gloves, a watering can, a bee, mushrooms, a tulip pot, boots with flowers and a butterfly.

The photos show how far one set goes: scrapbook embellishments, small hanging ornaments and fridge magnets. They also work as plant markers, gift tags for a gardener and spring stock for a craft fair. The designs suit 3 mm (1/8 inch) or 6 mm (1/4 inch) material and scale freely. They come as AI, EPS, SVG, DXF, PDF and DWG, for Glowforge, xTool, LightBurn, Cricut for engraving, Silhouette and CNC.

Easel Stand Backs in Fourteen Sizes

This is the file that quietly finishes every other project. It is a triangle stand in fourteen sizes, from 4 cm tall in 2 cm steps up to 30 cm. It has two parts: the triangle slots into a bracket, and you glue or tape the bracket to the back of your piece. Suddenly a plaque, a picture frame, a sign or a wedding table number stands on its own.

Keep a sheet of these cut and ready, and you can offer every flat piece you sell in a standing version. The stands suit 3 mm, 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) and 4 mm wood, plywood, MDF or acrylic. They come as AI, EPS, DXF and SVG for LightBurn, LaserCut and RDWorks, with Glowforge, OMTech, xTool and Thunder Laser machines.

Choosing from this list

A baby or a small child will love the animal clock or a dream catcher over the bed. For an older child, the dollhouse bookcase becomes a bookshelf later.

Readers and collectors will like a book nook with the miniature bookshelves.

For a housewarming, the rattan letters spelling HOME or the family name, and the topographic tray by the door.

In your own workshop, the easel backs and the pierced boxes are the tools that make every other project easier to display and to sell.

Before you cut

Where the maker states a thickness, you will find it above: 3 to 4 mm for the boxes and the easel backs, 3 or 6 mm for the garden designs. Several bundles here do not state one. In that case, check the slot width in the file against your sheet and cut a test joint on scrap first. For the clocks, buy the clock movement before you cut, so you can check that its shaft fits the centre hole.
