Laser Cut Earring SVG Files: Ghosts, Cats and Book Stacks

Laser Cut Earring SVG Files: Ghosts, Cats and Book Stacks

A laser cut earring SVG is a cutting file for a flat earring made from wood or acrylic. You cut the shape, then finish it with a jump ring and an ear wire, which is the hardware you can see on every pair in the photos below. The sellers of these files list 3 to 6 mm plywood, MDF, basswood and acrylic as the material, so one small offcut is enough for several pairs.

Earrings are the smallest thing worth cutting. A door sign takes a full sheet and one hook; a tray of earrings takes the scraps left over from that sign and fills a whole market table. That is why they are worth having on the machine even if signs are your main line.

Below are the files, walked through one at a time: what the design is, what comes in the download, and what it is good for.

What comes in the download

Every file here arrives as a ZIP. What is inside varies by seller, and it is the one thing worth checking before you buy:

  • SVG is in every one of them. It is the format Glowforge, xTool, LightBurn and Silhouette open directly.
  • DXF is in every one too. Use it if your machine or software prefers DXF over SVG.
  • EPS is in every one, for editing in vector software.
  • PNG with a transparent background comes with most of them, useful for listing photos and mockups rather than cutting.
  • PDF, AI and DWG turn up mainly in the bundles, the files aimed at people cutting a whole collection.

On machines: these are cutting files, not laser-only files, and the sellers list Glowforge, xTool, OMTech, LightBurn, Cricut and Silhouette between them.

Will these work on a Cricut?

Partly, and it is worth being straight about it. A Cricut or a Silhouette will open every SVG here, but neither one cuts 3 mm plywood or acrylic. On those machines these designs work in faux leather, fabric, cardstock or thin veneer, and the seller of the Boo earrings lists exactly those materials. For the wooden earrings you see in the photos you need a laser or a CNC router.

Can I resize an earring file?

Scaling up is safe. Scaling down is where designs break, because the thin parts of a cut, a whisker, a spiral, the gap between two letters, get thinner with everything else and can snap or burn through. Some of the sellers say it plainly in their listings: increase the size freely, but when reducing, look at the thin elements first. Cut one test pair in scrap before you cut a batch.

Halloween ghost earrings

Ghosts are the safe end of Halloween. Nothing on them is frightening, so they sell to people who would never wear a skull.

Boo Earrings with a Witch Hat

Black wooden BOO earrings with a witch hat, Halloween laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

The word “Boo” in a heavy rounded font, with a pointed witch hat leaning over the top of the letters and the brim cutting across them. Cut in black, it reads as a silhouette from across a room.

It is the simplest cut in this list. One layer, no gluing, no alignment, and the two round O shapes do most of the work of holding the piece together. The download has SVG, DXF, PNG and EPS in the ZIP, and the seller lists faux leather, fabric and paper alongside wood, so this is the one design here that genuinely works on a Cricut.

Ghost Earrings Bundle: A Whole Board of Them

This is the bundle to cut if you want a stall rather than a pair. The listing names nine designs plus variations: a ghost holding a pumpkin, a classic ghost silhouette, a ghost with a coffee cup, a floral ghost, a ghost in a witch hat, ghost tag earrings, a ghost with a bow, a ghost holding candy and a ghost in a duck costume.

The first photo is the whole set laid out on a board, which is also the most useful way to sell them: people pick from a row far more readily than from a single pair on a card. The second is four of them close up, and it shows what the engraving is doing. The shapes are layered, so the ghost sits proud of its own outline, and the detail, the flowers, the pumpkin face, the fringed hem, is burned in rather than cut through. That keeps the piece strong at earring size.

Files are SVG, DXF, EPS, AI, PDF and DWG.

Ghost Earrings Bundle: Six in Costume

Six pairs of painted ghost earrings on kraft display cards with pumpkins and a candle, Halloween laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

Six designs, each ghost dressed as something: a vampire in a black cape with a jack-o’-lantern bucket, a witch with a swirl lollipop, one in star sunglasses with a “Boo!” candy bag, one with a bow holding a bat balloon, one in an orange beanie with a lantern, and one in a top hat with a broom.

These are painted rather than left as bare wood, and the colour is where the work goes. Six designs from one file give you a display set that looks like a collection instead of a batch.

Files: SVG, DXF, EPS, AI, PDF and DWG. Material 3 mm plywood, MDF, basswood or acrylic.

Ghost in an Oval Frame

Two wooden earrings shaped as scalloped oval frames with a ghost inside, Halloween laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

A small ghost floating inside an oval picture frame, with scalloped curls around the edge and a drop finial at the bottom. The frame is cut open, so the ghost hangs in air and whatever is behind the earring becomes the background.

This is the grown-up one in the ghost section. Left in bare light wood it reads as a Victorian cameo before it reads as Halloween, which makes it the pair to cut for someone who wants the joke to be quiet. The cut is nearly all outline, so it is quick, but the scalloped edge is where a design like this goes wrong if you shrink it. The ZIP holds SVG, DXF, PNG and EPS.

Two Ghosts from the Same Bundle

Two designs from the same bundle, pulling in opposite directions.

The first is painted: a ghost with a wavy hem and an open mouth under a purple witch hat with a red band and a gold buckle. It is the loudest piece on this page, readable from across a room, and it wants a costume night rather than a shelf.

The second is the same idea with everything taken away. Bare plywood, no paint, the folds of the sheet scored in as fine lines rather than cut through, and only the eyes and mouth going all the way through. It is the quickest pair here to get from file to ear, because after the cut there is nothing to do but sand the edges.

Between them they show what the bundle is for: one file, thirty two designs, and your choice of how much work goes in after the machine stops. The ZIP holds SVG, DXF, EPS, PDF and DWG.

Cat earrings

Cats do the same job as ghosts and do it for longer. A black cat is Halloween in October and just a cat in March, so these are the pairs that keep selling after the season closes.

Cat Face in a Heart

One design in two photos. The outline is a heart; inside it, filling the lower half, sits a cat face with pointed ears reaching into the top curves of the heart and two round eyes cut clean through. The gap between the head and the heart is what makes it work: the negative space is the shape you notice first.

It is sold under a Halloween title, but there is nothing seasonal in it. In dark wood it is an everyday pair, which is the point.

This is the file with the clearest material notes on this page. The seller lists plywood, MDF, acrylic, plexiglas, metal, cardboard and paper, recommends 3 to 6 mm for wood, and adds the warning about thin elements when scaling down. Inside the ZIP: SVG, PNG, DXF, PDF and EPS.

Cat Silhouette with a Spiral Tail

Red stained wooden cat outline earrings with a spiral tail hanging from a branch, cat silhouette laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

A cat seen from behind, sitting, drawn as a single line of wood with the whole body cut away inside it. The tail comes down the right side and curls into a flat spiral at the bottom, which is the part that gives the earring its length and its swing.

It is the longest and lightest design here, and the one that most looks like jewellery rather than a craft piece. The trade-off is that the outline is thin all the way round, so it wants the upper end of the thickness range and no shrinking.

The download is put together differently from the others: the ZIP holds each layer separately, in SVG, AI, DXF, EPS, PDF and PNG, and the PNG is around 1.3 by 3 inches at 300 DPI. The seller also notes it can be printed onto transfer paper, so it is not a laser-only file.

Cat and Heart in a Circle

Round wooden earrings with a sitting cat whose tail curls into a heart, cat laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

A cat sits inside a plain circle with its back to you, and its tail sweeps forward and curls into a heart in front of its paws. The heart is the whole design: it is not an added symbol, it is the tail doing it.

The ring around the outside makes this the sturdiest cat here. Everything fragile is held inside a closed circle, so it survives being handled on a market table, and the round outline reads well against hair. This is the safe gift pair of the three cats.

ZIP contents: SVG, DXF, PNG and EPS.

Hanging Cat Earrings

Warm wood earrings shaped as a cat hanging by its front paws from a ring, cat laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

The cat is hanging by its front paws from the ring at the top, body stretched out below it, back legs dangling and the tail curving away. It is one solid shape with no cut-out interior, so nothing on it can snap.

The joke lands because of where the earring sits. Hooked into an ear, the cat looks like it is holding on to you, and it swings when you move. That reads at a glance in a photo, which matters if you are listing it online.

ZIP contents: SVG, DXF, PNG and EPS.

Filigree Cat with a Curled Tail

Pale wood earrings shaped as a sitting cat with leaf filigree on the body and a curled tail, cat laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

A cat sitting front-on with the body opened up into filigree: a run of small leaves up the chest, a spiral over the hip, whiskers reaching past the cheeks and the eyes cut clean through. The tail comes up the side and curls back over itself, and the whole silhouette stays one closed outline.

This is the most fragile design on the page and the one to slow down for. The gaps between the leaves are thin, the whiskers are thinner, and the tail is a long unsupported curve. Cut it from 3 mm, and leave the pieces sitting in the sheet until everything else is off the bed. It also needs pale plywood: in dark wood the filigree closes up and the cat turns back into a plain silhouette.

The weight works in its favour. Most of the piece is holes, so it hangs still rather than swinging, which is why it sits well on a ball post as well as a hook.

ZIP contents: SVG, DXF, EPS and transparent PNG at 300 dpi.

Cat Drawn in One Line

Wooden cat outline earrings with the tail curling into a heart, lying on pale linen with dried flowers, cat laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

A sitting cat whose whole silhouette is one unbroken line: a round head with a notch cut for the ear, the curve of the back, a front leg, and a tail that comes round and curls into a heart.

There are no small islands anywhere in this one. The outline closes on itself and the middle is open, so nothing drops through the bed and nothing has to be fished out of the tray afterwards. For the size of it the pair weighs almost nothing, because most of the shape is air.

The heart in the tail is the detail that turns a silhouette into a present. Without it this is a cat. With it, it is the thing you hand to someone who has one.

The two pieces mirror each other rather than repeat, so the cats face each other once the pair is on.

For coffee drinkers

Two files with no season and no holiday in them, which is exactly why they keep selling once the ghosts come down.

Coffee Cup Earrings

Light wood earrings shaped as a cup of coffee with a curl of steam, laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

A cup and saucer drawn as one continuous outline, handle on the side, with a curl of steam rising off the top and looping round into the hole that takes the ear wire.

The steam is the clever part: it is not decoration, it is the fitting. Everything else is a single closed line with the middle of the cup cut away, so the pair weighs almost nothing and still holds its shape.

The seller lists plywood, MDF, acrylic, plexiglas, metal, cardboard and paper as materials, and repeats the warning about thin elements when you scale a design down. ZIP contents: SVG, PNG, DXF, PDF and EPS.

Book Stack and Coffee Cup

Light wood earrings shaped as a stack of three books with a coffee cup and a heart on top, book lover laser cut earring SVG from svgdiy.com

Three books lying flat in a stack, pages and covers picked out as separate cut lines, with a cup and saucer balanced on top and a heart cut through the side of the cup.

The same cup as above, only now it is sitting on something. This is the pair for someone who reads with a mug beside them, and it says one specific thing about the person wearing it. Book clubs, teachers, a stall next to a secondhand bookshop.

Design-wise, the cut lines between the books are the tight part. Everything else is a broad shape, which makes the pair quick.

ZIP contents: SVG, DXF, PNG and EPS.

Cutting a set to sell

If you are picking one file from this page, pick a bundle. A single design gives you one pair; the ghost bundles give you a board, and a board is what stops people walking past.

Three things worth doing before a market:

  • Cut one test pair per design at your real material and thickness, before the batch. This is where thin spirals and scalloped edges tell you they are too thin.
  • Mix seasons on the table. The ghosts sell in October and stop dead on the first of November. The cats, the coffee cup and the book stack carry on through the winter, so keep a row of them next to the seasonal stuff.
  • Check the licence on the product page before you cut to sell. Terms are listed per file at Creative Fabrica, and it takes a minute to read.

For bigger pieces to cut from the same sheet of plywood, there is a walk-through of Halloween cat designs for doors and shelves, and one of ghost designs for the table.
